Tommy Miller and Bart Ray formed a musical/comedy duo in
South Bend, Indiana in 2006. They called themselves "Money &
Fame". In January 2008 they added two more musicians and became "The
Money & Fame Show." They play a variety of music from the 50s through
the 80s including oldies, classic rock and country/western. Their comedy has
been compared to the Smothers Brothers and Rowan and Martin
with a
little Homer and Jethro thrown in! The guys range in age from 50 to 59. The
drummer and youngest member of the show is Shannon Kling. Patrick
"Dutch" Holloway holds down the bottom as bass player. Tommy Miller
sings lead and backup while playing acoustic and electric guitar. Bart Ray, the
other lead and backup singer is also the lead guitarist and is the oldest in the
group.
At thirteen, Tommy won a local contest as a tap dancer and
the prize was an all expense paid trip to to be on the Ted Mack Amateur
Hour in New York City. He, later, learned to play guitar and sing before
moving to Arizona. While in Tucson, he opened for the "Byrds", the
"Spyders (Alice Cooper)" and played guitar with Billy Preston. He has
since shared the stage with Gene Pitney, "The Easybeats", "The
Buckinghams", "The Blues Magoos", "Questionmark and the
Mysterians" and Jeff Bates. Bart has been playing various musical
instruments since he was 11 years old. He did much work as a studio musician and
song arranger for Capitol Records in California. While in Hollywood, he played for a short while
with "Steppenwolf". He has shared the stage or performed with groups
like the "Doors", "Spirit", Ricky Nelson, the "Beach
Boys", "Vanilla Fudge, Sandler and Young, ""Steppenfetchit",
David Romaine, Tom T. Hall, Tracy Byrd and Dan Seals. So with their backgrounds the guys
said, " Hey, we've both had a little money and a little fame, so why don't
call ourselves Money & Fame"?
Since forming, The Money & Fame Show has performed for
the Indiana State Festivals Association Convention and the Riley Children s
Hospital Benefit, both were in Indianapolis, IN. They have performed for many
public and private clubs in the Michiana area. The group has been a hit in all
venues. Their fan base and mailing list have grown by over 200 in the first
three months of this year. Their new cd is scheduled to be released about mid
summer and will coincide with press and radio interviews and reviews. A tour of
hotels, clubs, casinos and festivals will follow the cd release.
