Tommy
has been in the music business for most of his life, primarily singing and
playing guitar. Early on, Tommy's mother thought that he needed to add other
skills to his singing and guitar playing, and when he was eleven, she signed
him up for tap dancing lessons. At age thirteen he won a
local talent contest. First prize was an all-expense-paid trip to New York City to audition for the "Ted Mack
Amateur Hour." (When the guy playing the spoons beat him, Tommy
knew that dancing wasn't his forte.) He soon gave up tap dancing but continued to play guitar and sing, working in
several bands in the Northern Indiana area until his sophomore year in high
school, when he moved to Tucson, Arizona.
While in Tucson he played in a
few bands and had the opportunity to open for The Byrds and
The Spiders, (who later changed their name to Alice
Cooper). He even played with Billy Preston as a
temporary replacement guitarist, until Billy found out that he was only
fifteen years old!
Tommy has
had the pleasure to share the stage and open for the likes of Gene Pitney,
The Easybeats, The Buckinghams, The Blues Magoos, Question Mark and the Mysterians,
Jeff Bates and many other top bands.
